About the event

  • Join us for Magic and Mayhem – a Kings of War tournament where magic is a fickle creature, and can just as well leave a general stranded by its whim as it can destroy entire armies. This 2300 point tournament will use a “magical item draft” method wherein players will take turns selecting magical artefacts for their armies and banishing others from the game!

  • How it works -
  • Each player brings a 2300 point army, but may not select magical artefacts. Legendary spells are still permitted. You may leave a points deficit for purchasing magical artefacts through the draft and each general gains an additional 50 points each for the draft also. (Thus, if a general selects 2250 points in army build, they would have 50 points left over of their original 2300 plus a bonus 50 points to use in the draft – i.e. 100 points).

  • The draft
  • After rolling to determine sides and deployment, each round both players will draft from the same deck of magical artefacts. Therefore there will be only one of each item in the game, for example, one brew of sharpness. Starting with the player that lost the deployment roll, both players take it in turn to purchase and banish magical artefacts.
  • First, the players select an item to purchase each. Then, an item to banish from the game. Then, another item to purchase and another item to banish and so on.
  • Once one of the players have exhausted their allocation of points for the draft, they can no longer purchase items but will still be able to banish them in turn with their opponent. When their opponent has also exhausted their remaining points, or the magical artefact deck has been entirely milled through, the game begins.
  • The results of the draft are not permanent and only last for the game they were drawn for. For subsequent rounds, a new draft takes place with a full deck of magical artefacts again.
